The move to high school is a critical milestone, and we are committed to ensuring every student and family feels fully prepared and equipped for success.

We are excited to invite Black students and their families in Grades 6 through 10 to an upcoming event highlighting the opportunities available to support pathway planning, specialty programs, and the transition between elementary and secondary school.

This is a key opportunity for Black students and families to connect with educators, ask questions, and build a personalized roadmap for a successful and fulfilling secondary school experience.

October 7th marks the official start of International Walk to School Month (IWALK).

IWALK is an annual mass celebration of active transportation that takes place around the world throughout the month of October.

A little movement goes a long way. Walking, wheeling, or cycling to school helps children boost their concentration, sharpen their memory, and feel ready to take on the day. Plus, every active trip helps create a greener and healthier community.

Our school plans to celebrate IWALK Day on October 7. On this date all students and families are encouraged to travel actively to school.

Let’s make this October a WALKTOBER! All students and families are encouraged to walk/cycle as often as possible!

dEach year, EQAO publicly reports on the results of its online provincial assessments. EQAO data acts as one measure used to determine whether students are meeting expectations in reading, writing, and mathematics. The EQAO assessments also include student surveys that provide insight into students’ attitudes and perceptions about their learning. EQAO results at the elementary school level do not have any impact on student report card marks. This week, EQAO released the assessment results for the 2025-2026 school year. EQAO has assessment data on its website, available through a search function along with interactive dashboards to view assessments and questionnaire data at the school, school board, and provincial levels. Families can use this dashboard to look at the assessment data for the students at Phoebe Gilman and at the YRDSB as a whole.

Individual Student Reports (ISRs) for the Assessments of Reading, Writing, and Mathematics in the Primary and Junior Divisions for the 2025-2026 school year will be released to schools shortly. They will be sent home with our Grade 4 (last year’s Grade 3) and our Grade 7 (last year’s Grade 6) students so that families can review their child’s results.
